What are the gated communities used for in South Africa?
Q. Not trying to be racist at all, and i do apologise if I do offend, but I don't really understand the situation in South Africa. However is it to stop the black people from coming to close to the white people. If not could someone please educate me on the reason for this.
Asked by Aussie_dude - Tue Mar 10 04:33:33 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Gated communities, with their controlled entrances, high walls with electric fencing on top, alarm systems etc, have become popular as a deterrent against relatively high levels of crime. Not only white people reside in these gated residential communities and the purpose is to protect residents from criminal activities, apartheid is something of the past and all citizens can reside where they choose, subject only to affordability. So the sole purpose is additional safety precautions and security from crime and criminals. Furthermore criminals are not restricted to one race they come in all colours, shapes and sizes.
