The thirty-fourth largest state by area in the U.S., it is the seventh-most populous with nearly 11.5 million residents. Ohio, whose name was derived from the Seneca word ohi:yo’, meaning "large creek," was formed primarily from the Ohio Territory and was admitted to the Union as the seventeenth state (and the first under the Northwest Ordinance) on March 1, 1803. Ohio is known as the "Buckeye State" for its prevalence of Ohio Buckeye trees, and, as such, Ohioans are also known as "Buckeyes." The government of Ohio is composed of the executive branch, led by the Governor; the legislative branch, which comprises the Ohio General Assembly; and the judicial branch, which is led by the Supreme Court. If i wanted to buy a non-motorized "pedle" boat to dock and ride on a lake where I live, what Ohio laws exist that I need to be aware of? Do I need to have a lisence to ride a pedle boat? You can usually find out either through the state's DMV or DNR (Department of Natural Resources). Ohio is one of those states that does require registration: I don't know of anywhere that requires a personal license or liability insurance. If you're concerned about liability, check to see what your homeowners/renters policy covers (biggest concern would be if you're going to lend out the boat regularly to people who might not know what they're doing). Some parks and other areas may require launching fees. At the very least, you're required to have a life jacket on board for each person. Some areas require you to be wearing it.
