I've got a condition called mallet finger. Can I still play ball?
Q. I jammed my finger playing basketball and tore a tendon, and ended up with a condition called mallet finger. I can bend my finger but can't straighten the top joint. I now have to wear a splint for 6 weeks. Can I still play while recuperating if I wear a good finger splint? And what is a good finger splint?

I played yesterday, I actually have two splints one that hooks on with velcro, and the other which looks like a hood and covers the finger by a little more than an inch. I played yesterday with the latter (which evidently should protect the finger more) and even with waterproof tape it was sliding around and awkward. But human beings adapt. I have got to see if I can do a better job of taping it up. I think the idea of the hood shape… [cont.]
