What year range of Volkswagen Golfs is the best?
Q. I am searching for a nice VW Golf. But I keep getting warned that certain year range models are faulty. I am looking into a 2004 two-door, and am in love. But I can't seem to find out if it is one of the 'bad' years.
Asked by Zoe - Mon Dec 15 14:03:31 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. the answer to the 04 is no its not "bad" vw used to make horrible cars, after 02 they started producing quality. in 07 vw replaced the golf with the Rabbit (witch i currently have a 2008), this car is way better than the golf, so if you can go 07 or 08 the rabbit is the best

Are Volkswagen Golfs expensive to maintain?
Q. I am planning to purchase a 2000 Volkswagen Golf (may be GTI) everyone's doubting me because they claim they are expensive because they're foreign. is this true? if so what difference is it from getting a Volvo? let me know your experience VW owners!!
Asked by projectjon187 - Tue Jun 2 20:44:43 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I owned a 2000 GTI for 90K reliable bullet-proof miles. No issue with sensors, no quirks, no problems whatsoever! ( window regulator was replaced under warranty; this was done free even though it was out of warranty). It was a powerful, incredibly fun car to drive! The ONLY reason I sold it was to buy a new 2006 GTI ; IMO an even better car. My sister has a 2000 Golf Auto trans. with 160K durable miles on it. She loves it because it has cost her 0 $$ in repairs!! She does however, maintain it by the book. I have owned many autos over the years (I'm 56), but I have ultimately chosen VW as my permanent brand. When comparing parts and labor prices with other brands, I have found that VW is no higher than anyone else. Let's face it, All parts… [cont.]

A. The Rabbit was a precusor model to the Golf. It was quite popular, but then VW released the Golf which redefined the model. In 2005 VM revived the Rabbit name by reapplying it to the Golf model. You will now see on the US site there is no Golf after 2004. Check it out here:

Does anyone know anything about 97 VW Golfs?
Q. I just bought a used golf.. about 10 years old, 280 000 km on it, and it drove pretty well but I'm noticing lately that it doesn't pick up as fast as it used to. I really have to put a lot of pressure on the accelerator for it to go.. and it makes that loud reving noise. Also, the tachometer doesn't go down to zero unless the car is off. When it's stationary it doesn't go any lower than 800 rev. I'm not sure if the two things are connected, but if anyone can shed some light on this and provide a fix, I'd appreciate it. It's an automatic

How practical would it be to replace a gas engine with a rebuilt Volkswagen diesel in a Volkswagen Golf.?
Q. Older gas Golfs are cheap, but not so with the diesels. Plus the diesels are hard to find. If it is a straight swap, or close to it I could save thousands of dollars.
Asked by DJ - Thu Mar 20 23:11:13 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I have thought of doing a similar swap with my '88 Cabriolet. there is a lot more to it then just replacing the motor. You would be better off to try to find a diesel donor Golf the same year as yours. The diesel has a slightly different dash with the glow plug indicator and also the early versions have an enrich lever for cold starts. There are other slight differences between the two that you'll need to address ( fuel filter, fuel line water separator, etc.) I had a '89 Diesel Jetta that my wife forced me to sell verses having it sit in the driveway. My son smash the front end up, but I wanted to save it. A few years later I bought the '88 Gas Cabriolet. The Jetta used to get about 45 mpg, the Cab gets 32. Maybe some day I get another… [cont.]

What Golf Country Club in the Bellevue Washington Area is affordable for a family?
Q. We are a family of (4) considering relocating to the Bellevue, Kirkland, are of Washington. We love to golf and belong to an affordable golf club in the twin cities. Is there something affordable out in the Seattle area that would offer housing close by, or possibly on the golf course?
Asked by bkm4653 - Mon Aug 18 22:53:32 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No. If you are looking for "affordable" then, stay in the twin cities. This is the equivalent of asking if you can find a affordable house on Lake of the Isles... Bellevue and Kirkland are the heart of the posh east side Seattle suburbs. Look to pay anywhere from 700K up to be close to a golf course. Microsoft & it's millionaires have driven up prices in the area. You might find affordable and golf course way out in the far northwest suburbs (Monroe, Snohomish) or the southwest suburbs (Black Diamond, Covington) - Then you are stuck with multi hour commutes each way to Seattle. I have looked and there is no way to specify on the local real estate websites 'golf course' so, if you want to pursue it, contact a Realtor at one of the… [cont.]

What brand of golf clubs is best for a chick starting out?
Q. I want to start playing golf. I'm 22 years old and I've done a little research on golf clubs. I knew going into this that Callaway is probably the best brand, but its also really expensive. Is Wilson a good brand for Women's golf clubs? I want to spend no more than 2 or 3 hundred dollars on a complete set to start out with. Is that reasonable?
Asked by razzle - Wed Jun 3 16:47:12 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hello future golfer. I have been playing golf for about 5 years now. I use a non-brand set of clubs (Gear 2 Golf) it cost for the whole set about 350.00. I know the name is generic but these clubs have a softer feel to them and allow some forgiveness to mistake shots. All I can say is care full with brand names around that price. They are mostly true-hit clubs( as in they have no forgiveness to them). Hope this helps, good luck in your search.

What type of golf clubs does a beginner need for a round of golf?
Q. I just finished up a golf class last week put on by ESPN in which they gave you a set of Nike Ignite clubs to get started, namely; 4-9 irons, pw, 3-hybrid and a putter. I added a cheap driver (which I'm planning on upgrading to a Nike Summo) and a Wilson 58 deg sand wedge as well. I have played the past two months with this set and feel that I may need more fairway clubs especially for the 5 pars. I'm getting mixed up between some saying I need a 3 and a 5 wood while others say I need 5, 7 and 9 wood. As well, I'm mixed up whether I should get hybrids (like the #3 that I have) to take the place of the woods. Does anyone have suggestions on what I should get to complete my set? BTW, I do like wedges and would like to add either a LW… [cont.]
Asked by GRUMP - Wed Sep 26 10:55:27 2007 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments

A. The ideal set for the intermediate golfer would start with Game Improvement irons. You still need forgiveness but you'd also like a little more feel and control. If you tend to hit your irons well you might be ready to consider a regular 4 iron, otherwise stay with your hybrid 4. For your distance clubs add a little less loft on those fairway woods and hybrids to maximize distance. You might be ready to drop your 5 hybrid and replace it with a 3 hybrid. Your driver is still oversized with about 10-12 degrees of loft to maximize distance and accuracy. Shaft selections may be the most important component. You want a shaft that matches your swing speed and ball flight requirements. Perhaps a draw bias to help get the drive moving a little… [cont.]

Q. My husband and I are getting interested in golf and we would like to know what the dress code is for golf courses during the summer. Thanks in advance.
Asked by kissyh14 - Sun Apr 13 21:40:33 2008 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends upon the golf course you play. Some local public courses have no dress code (just decent). Most expensive courses or country clubs require long slacks and pull over shirts with collars, usually no jeans, halters, or short shorts. You do need regular golf shoes, the usual golf equipment, and some kind of cap or hat. It's a fun game. Learn and have fun. You'll meet many nice and polite people.
