how far should a beginer golfer be able to drive the ball?
Q. how far should a beginer golfer be able to drive the ball? i have been using a wood i think, it has a number 5 on it, i usually drive it 80-100 yards on flat ground, is this good/ok for a beginer?

A. For a beginner to hit 5-wood 80-100 yards is a little on the shorter side. With the correct technique, you should be able to hit 120-130 yards at least with your 5-wood on a flat.

What can I do to better my chances of becoming a professional golfer.?
Q. I've played the sport for only a year, but I am so infatuated with its infinite variations of shots, the caliber of difficulty, and most of all the allure of becoming as good of a golfer one can be. My handicap in the past year since April 2007 has gone from a 18 to right around 7 or 8, I haven't had any lessons, strictly self-taught; unless of course reading online and watching Golf Channel are lessons. I am 16, and a Junior, and I will be playing on the golf team for my school this year. I have really started to understand but I need to know if seeing a Professional and getting lessons would help propel me to the next level. Let me know what you think, and for emphasis I am so dedicated to the game that the days I don't get to golf… [cont.]

A. yes lessons would definately help you have made a great accomplishment and shows alot of passion on your part by going from an 18 hdcp. to a 7 or 8 hdcp. but take my advice when i tell you going from an 18 to 7 is nothing compared to going from a 7 to a +7 or +8 which is where you need to be if you want to be an accomplished professional golfer. find the right instructor the best golf instructors are those that can take your natural talent and make your swing more basic and consistent without too much change.. don't take lessons from one that teaches you to swing the same way that he/she does.. p.s. good luck its a great dream make it a reality...
