What Golf Country Club in the Bellevue Washington Area is affordable for a family?
Q. We are a family of (4) considering relocating to the Bellevue, Kirkland, are of Washington. We love to golf and belong to an affordable golf club in the twin cities. Is there something affordable out in the Seattle area that would offer housing close by, or possibly on the golf course?

A. No. If you are looking for "affordable" then, stay in the twin cities. This is the equivalent of asking if you can find a affordable house on Lake of the Isles... Bellevue and Kirkland are the heart of the posh east side Seattle suburbs. Look to pay anywhere from 700K up to be close to a golf course. Microsoft & it's millionaires have driven up prices in the area. You might find affordable and golf course way out in the far northwest suburbs (Monroe, Snohomish) or the southwest suburbs (Black Diamond, Covington) - Then you are stuck with multi hour commutes each way to Seattle. I have looked and there is no way to specify on the local real estate websites 'golf course' so, if you want to pursue it, contact a Realtor at one of the… [cont.]

Does it really matter if golf clubs are old and worn? What are the good clubs for beginners?
Q. I'm wanting to buy a golf club set. I see clubs at the range I can use for free and one brand I remember is callaway. Is that a good brand? They have mostly worn golf clubs. I have played golf already and taken one semester class. I just don't think golf ranges would risk giving out good value clubs for people to borrow since people can easily steal them.
Asked by yair - Sun Dec 6 01:05:58 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Just use what you can for a while. Used clubs are good for beginners because they are much much cheaper and you don't have to worry about denting or dinging them like you would a set to 500 dollar clubs. After a while (6 months to a year or whenever you feel like your ready to move up) go to a pro shop and have your swing analyzed and see what a pro recommends for you. There are so many different clubs out there and everyone has their own preference so you really should spend a lot of money on a nice set without trying them out first to see how they feel and see if they fit your game. Hope that helps... Good luck!!

How do I become a certified PGA golf professional and what is a good site for golf jobs?
Q. I played college golf and worked at the King & Bear of World Golf Village and took the P.A.T. once and passed it very easily. I keep thinking I should become a PGA Professional because that is all I like besides sex, LOL. The thing that keeps me from pursuing it is that the pay is awful. I know these are a bunch of questions, but any suggestions from a golf pro would be helpful. Thanks!

The other pros basically worked the exact same job I did which was outside dealing with the members, setting up tournaments and making sure everything was running smoothly. Those guys were not paid that well and usually worked 5 days a week, sometimes 6 on salary so over 40 hours didn't pay any extra. What type of golf clubs does a beginner need for a round of golf?
Q. I just finished up a golf class last week put on by ESPN in which they gave you a set of Nike Ignite clubs to get started, namely; 4-9 irons, pw, 3-hybrid and a putter. I added a cheap driver (which I'm planning on upgrading to a Nike Summo) and a Wilson 58 deg sand wedge as well. I have played the past two months with this set and feel that I may need more fairway clubs especially for the 5 pars. I'm getting mixed up between some saying I need a 3 and a 5 wood while others say I need 5, 7 and 9 wood. As well, I'm mixed up whether I should get hybrids (like the #3 that I have) to take the place of the woods. Does anyone have suggestions on what I should get to complete my set? BTW, I do like wedges and would like to add either a LW… [cont.]

A. The ideal set for the intermediate golfer would start with Game Improvement irons. You still need forgiveness but you'd also like a little more feel and control. If you tend to hit your irons well you might be ready to consider a regular 4 iron, otherwise stay with your hybrid 4. For your distance clubs add a little less loft on those fairway woods and hybrids to maximize distance. You might be ready to drop your 5 hybrid and replace it with a 3 hybrid. Your driver is still oversized with about 10-12 degrees of loft to maximize distance and accuracy. Shaft selections may be the most important component. You want a shaft that matches your swing speed and ball flight requirements. Perhaps a draw bias to help get the drive moving a little… [cont.]

Is it legal to drive a golf cart on a private course while intoxicated?
Q. I golf frequently at a private golf course near my house. They serve alcohol on the course (a snack cart drives around) and I sometimes see people bring their own flasks of liquor to the course. I often see people who are drunk driving the golf carts. Is it legal because it is on private property or could you get a DUI for that? I live in Colorado.

A. Hi there.. Golf carts are usually divided into types based on how they are powered, and the cost of purchasing and maintaining them varies by type. Electric golf carts are fine for golfers who will use their carts only on the golf course. Those using their golf carts in more all-terrain environments, at construction sites, or during camping or skeet shooting trips will probably want a gas powered golf cart as it can handle varying terrain and long distances better. The price of golf carts also depends on whether you are buying a new or a used golf cart. A used golf cart can usually be purchased for half the price of a brand new one. This means you could save as much as $2,500 on a used electric golf cart and upwards of $3,500 on a gas… [cont.]

What will a golf course be like on the Sunday before Labor Day?
Q. My fiance and I are planning an outdoor wedding at a golf course, but I'm a little worried about the date. We are planning to have our wedding on the Sunday before Labor Day. A. in Fantasy Golf, a golfer can receive a maximum of 20 fantasy points in each round of a tournament. The golfer with the lowest real-life score in A Round receives 20 points. Other golfers receive 2 fewer points for every stroke they finish behind the leader (e.g., a golfer 1 stroke back for the round receives 18 points, a golfer 2 strokes back gets 16. Golfers 10 or more strokes back receive 0 points). A. The design of a golf course requires collaboration between many disciplines. This involves mostly civil engineers and landscape architects. As you stated, civil engineers are mainly responsible for designing the drainage of the overall site. They will also be responsible for land reclamation and geotechnical assessments. On the other hand, the landscape architects are responsible for designing the contours of the site in order to tailor for the varying difficulties of the holes of the course, as well as the placement of lakes and trees. Having said all that, I doubt that golf design companies directly employ civil engineers, rather they employ the landscape architects. They in turn offer contracts with consultancies for the design of… [cont.]

A. They use an old-school yardage book created for the tournament. Typically, the caddies will buy said yardage book before the tournament and then walk the course to verify yardages and add yardages to/from specific points. They might use a rangefinder/GPS during practice rounds but they're verboten during tournament rounds. Either way, the caddie is still walking the course on his own at least once before Thursday. The players/caddies are given pin sheets which show distances to the hole...it's a crude drawing of the green with two numbers (one from either the front or back, and one from either the left or right side). The caddie will always have that yardage book with him/her for the tournament because of the copious notes that they… [cont.]

What is a good way to practice golf over the winter?
Q. Winter's here and the golf season is over, but I have tryouts for the golf team in March. Since no courses will be open until after then, how can I keep from getting "stiff" over the winter. What are some good ways to practice?

You can also go to Putt-Putt and this is like the BEST way to practice your putting because you have to read the greens and negotiate harder slopes/turns. Use your real putter though. Go to a pro shop and use their swing analyzer and this can tell you if your swing is wrong. I recommend the Medicus Dual-Hinge driver and the 5-iron. These have helped mold my swing and I hit longer, straighter shots consistently. You'll have to get out there on the course some time in the cold if you want to really practice. Just don't play a full 18 or even 9. You can use the practice greens and bunkers even the driving… [cont.]
