From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Condensation is the change in the phase of matter from the gaseous phase (of an element/ chemical species) into liquid droplets or solid grains of the same element/ chemical species. Upon the slowing-down of the atoms/ molecules of the species, the overall attraction forces between these prevail and bring them together at distances comparable to their sizes. Since the condensing atoms/ molecules suffer from reduced degrees of freedom and ranges of motion, their prior kinetic energy must be lost/ transferred to an adsorbing colder entity — either a center of condensation within the gas volume (colder molecules of the species, cold grains of dust etc.) or some contact surface. Condensation is initiated by the formation of atomic/ molecular clusters of that species within its gaseous volume — like rain drop or snow-flake formation within clouds — or at the contact between such gaseous phase and a (solvent) liquid or solid surface. A few distinct reversibility scenarios emerge here with respect to the nature of the surface.
Condensation commonly occurs when a vapor is cooled and/or compressed to its saturation limit when the molecular density in the gas phase reaches its maximal threshold. Vapor cooling and compressing equipment that collects condensed liquids is called "condenser". Psychrometry measures the rates of condensation from and evaporation into the air moisture at various atmospheric pressures and temperatures. Water is the product of its vapor condensation — condensation is the process of such phase conversion. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How do you remove condensation from a watch? Q. Condensation has developed on the glass inside of my digital watch. How can I remove this without opening the watch? Asked by LEM - Tue May 9 21:51:43 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. If it is more then the typical $2.00 fleemarket watch with a plastic crystal, All I do to mine is hold it over my Zippo lighter for a few secs. Don't let the flame touch the glass though. Even a hair dryer will work, on low heat. The moisture will evaporate quite readily with a little heat. Mine get's that way for forgetting to take it off in the shower. Answered by Dusty - Tue May 9 22:00:01 2006 How do I avoid condensation on my wooden windows in my house? Q. They are rotting due to moisture during the winter. The relative humidity in my house is usually in between 40 and 50 %, and the condensation on the windows happens when the temperature is less than 35. Asked by AnswerMan - Wed Dec 14 22:32:09 2005 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Your relative humidity is too high. Run your exhaust fans longer to reduce the humidity or get a dehumidifier and reduce the humidity to about 30%. If you have a dirt floor in the basement, seal it with plastic to keep the humidity out of the house. At some point old single pane windows will condense with water vapor and there's very little that can be done. Q. We have mold growing in our windows, how can I prevent the mold or reduce the condensation? Asked by Shih Tzu Love Lovin Summer! =) - Sun Jan 31 14:08:05 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Do you have a humidifier on your furnace?? If so you need to turn it down to a lower #..Yes a dehumidifier will work but you have to find the source of where the condensation is coming from.I get it on my windows when the sun is shining and heats up the house.I do have a furnace humidifier tho.Maybe when you bought your home you did'nt realize you had one on the furnace?? Do you have a lot of house plants that you are watering and then this leeches back into the home?? Are you running a stand alone humidifier?? If none of this you are going to have to run ceiling fans if you have them in the counter clockwise position or crack open some windows..Is it cold or warm where you live also?? That will make a difference.. Answered by Nikko,GSD&PEKE LVR - Sun Jan 31 15:27:43 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "condensation" Cornbelt Update
