A ball is a round object with various uses. It is usually spherical but can be ovoid. It is used in ball games, where the play of the game follows the state of the ball as it is hit, kicked or thrown by players. Balls can also be used for simpler activities, such as catch, marbles and juggling. Balls made from hard-wearing metal are used in engineering applications to provide very low friction bearings, known as ball bearings.

Although many types of balls are today made from rubber, this form was unknown outside the Americas until after the voyages of Columbus. The Spanish were the first Europeans to see bouncing rubber balls (albeit solid and not inflated) which were employed most notably in the Mesoamerican ballgame. Balls used in various sports in other parts of the world prior to Columbus were made from other materials such as animal bladders or skins, stuffed with various materials.

What size ball is usually used for a 16 gauge eyebrow piercing?
Q. I'm a female and I have a 16 gauge eyebrow piercing, I want to buy some new jewelry but I'm not sure of the length I should get or the size ball. The balls that I have on it now are pretty small, so there as feminine as possible. Can you give me some help? Thanks!! : )
Asked by Iamready! - Wed Jun 4 02:22:22 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Depends how small you want them, they come in all shapes & sizes. For eyebrows the balls are usually 3mm standard size. Here is a website where they sell body jewelry and have good quality metal & styles that I like to order from, it will also tell you the standard size of 3mm's but will also have avaliable bigger sizes too . I would think 3mm is very subtle looking, not so distractingly big.

What kind of bowling ball has the most hook?
Q. I am a beginner at bowling and I am currently still learning how to hook the ball. Can anyone suggest a ball that is fairly easy to hook?
Asked by Gary - Wed Feb 18 00:42:05 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. For someone that is learning how to hook a ball, I'd recommend either the Ebonite Tornado, AMF Reactive Angle, Storm Tropical Storm, Hammer Vibe, Brunswick Reactive Groove, Brunswick Avalanche or the Columbia 300 Scout. These are what most bowlers and instructors call "entry level reactives", which do not have aggressive reactions on the lanes, except if the lanes are "bone dry". The price range usually for these bowling balls is from $65 to $95, which is a good price for something that will last your entire time learning how to hook a ball, then can be used for dry to medium conditions or even for spares when you get better. Please ask questions about this equipment at your local pro shop, or you can get a head start by doing some… [cont.]

What bowling ball would you recommend to someone who is just starting to bowl?
Q. I hold and throw the ball with my 2 fingers. I do not use the thumb. I do have a hook to my throw. Should I use the thumb also?
Asked by Joe A - Sun Feb 8 22:36:07 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. My 17 year old son uses the same style with 2 fingers, no thumb, massive revolutions, 16-17 mph. speed and excels with a 208 average in his USBC jr. league. He can also use his thumb with the same reaction on the lane, but only because he's trying out for San Jose State University's bowling team. He started using a Brunswick International "Dry Zone", which is one of the lowest hook rating reactive resin bowling balls out there. To complement it, he uses a Brunswick T-Zone for drier conditions and for spares. Now, since he's mastered the style, he is using one of the higher hook rating bowling balls out there, which is the Ultimate Inferno and has no problem playing inside, straighter or from the outside. For someone that's getting… [cont.]
