Would a coal miner and a registered nurse be able to emigrate to Australia from US?
Q. My husband works in an underground coal mine in West Virginia and has heard of people getting offers to work in Australia. I will be finished with school in a couple years and we have read a lot of interesting things about Australia. Would it be difficult to find jobs in order to move? About how much does it cost to relocate? (We are a family of 5 but don't plan on taking much with us) Also would we be able to afford housing? It seems much more expensive than here.

A. You will need a couple of years nursing experience to migrate (I am not sure about your husband though - he might be eligible now). With 3 children you will need quite alot of money - around 50K cash to qualify. Also note, that mining jobs are in the outback, remote locations (we are talking about where there is a several hour plane trip to the nearest "mall" or cinema. It is very remote and also the mines are in the hottest regions of the country. As an added incentive the price of accommodation in some mining areas is higher than Sydney (since miners earn alot and are the only residents of the two you could be looking at $450 a week for a 3 bedroom house. Some mining companies offer fly in fly out jobs - where the miner flys in for 2… [cont.]
