From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Africa is the world's second-largest and second most-populous continent, after Asia. At about 30.2 million km² (11.7 million sq mi) including adjacent islands, it covers 6% of the Earth's total surface area and 20.4% of the total land area. With a billion people (as of 2009, see table) in 61 territories, it accounts for about 14.8% of the World's human population. The continent is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Suez Canal and the Red Sea to the northeast, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Not counting the disputed territory of Western Sahara, there are 53 countries, including Madagascar and various island groups, associated with the continent. Africa, particularly central eastern Africa, is widely regarded within the scientific community to be the origin of humans and the Hominidae tree (great apes), as evidenced by the discovery of the earliest hominids and their ancestors, as well as later ones that have been dated to around seven million years ago – including Sahelanthropus tchadensis, Australopithecus africanus, A. afarensis, Homo erectus, H. habilis and H. ergaster – with the earliest Homo sapiens (human) found in Ethiopia being dated to ca. 200,000 years ago. Africa straddles the equator and encompasses numerous climate areas; it is the only continent to stretch from the northern temperate to southern temperate zones. From Wikipedia under the

I have seen the volunteer opportunities online, but they all involve a fee to be able to volunteer. While I understand the reason for this, I am not looking to go to Africa for a few weeks and come back and return to life here in the states. I want to actually work at one of these sanctuaries and live in Africa. Does anyone have any idea how to start this life with this career? Thank you. The best way to help others is to be a good example of independent success, if you give African people money, food, etc. then that's HOW they get it from now on...You are not helping them, you are helping a parasitic political organization to spread propaganda... Why would they improve their position when you are sending all this help? They've already got it made! The best way to help these people is to let them discover what they can accomplish on their own...Or, if they are destined to suffer for their whole lives, then let them die quickly instead of stretching it out over years and years. YOU DON'T know these people...When you set out to help them you are only doing it to feel better about your status as a capitalist...a politic that… [cont.] Answered by Aku - Fri Apr 27 20:00:01 2007 What are the differences in building a company in Africa and the developed world?
